Butler Health System | Health Link | Summer 2021
Speeding recovery The past year has been unprecedented for Butler Health System and indeed every health provider in the world. I am so proud of how our doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, environmental services staff and our entire health care team has risen to the occasion and performed tremendously during a global pandemic. It is not behind us. Thankfully, as I write this, COVID-19 numbers are much lower than we have seen. But we continue to see seriously ill patients, and unfortunately some do not survive. I cannot encourage you enough to get vaccinated if you haven’t already. We see very few—almost zero—hospitalizations and serious illness among individuals who have been vaccinated. With new and emerging virus variants, it is never too late to get vaccinated. A better quality of life, for all in our community Every time we publish an issue of Health Link, the most difficult decision is narrowing the topics. There is so much good work going on across Butler Health System. In this issue, we feature interventional procedures. Interventional is a fancy way of saying that we are treating diseases and maladies as noninvasively as possible. This speeds recovery time, reduces the risk of infection and leads to a better quality of life overall. You will also notice in this issue mention of the newly opened BHS Food Institute. Providing healthy, affordable and nutritious foods to those with scarce resources is an initiative within the BHS approach to addressing Social Determinants of Health, or SDOH. The BHS Board of Trustees and management is taking very seriously the SDOH issues that, over many years, have led to poor health for individuals and for communities. As you enjoy this issue of Health Link , note the exciting growth and new services coming from BHS to the people in Clarion County. We are also pleased that for a second year in a row, Butler Health System’s Maternal Services has been ranked in the Top 100 by Newsweek /Leapfrog—another testament to our dedicated physicians, nurses and all staff. Enjoy your summer. Stay safe. And, as always, thank you for choosing Butler Health System.
